Hollis Croft is a residential development in Sheffield, England, housing student accommodation for the University of Sheffield. The development consists of 1,003 student apartments spread across three buildings, including an 18-storey tower rising to 60 metres (200 ft), constructed by Brookfield Student Real Estate and operated by Student Roost. Construction of Hollis Croft started in June 2017. Upon completion in September 2019, Hollis Croft became the seventh-tallest building in Sheffield; as of May 2020, it is now the eighth-tallest.
The complex was built on brownfield land on both sides of Hollis Croft, off Broad Lane in the St Vincent's Quarter of Sheffield city centre. The site was previously occupied by the abandoned Footprint Tools factory. Demolition of factory buildings to clear the Hollis Croft site commenced in mid-2016. Construction of Hollis Croft commenced in June 2017; the main tower was topped out by mid-2019, and the complex was completed enough to enable it to accept its first cohort of students in September 2019, although further construction wasn't completed until the end of the year.
In keeping with the majority of other student-based residential projects constructed in Sheffield in recent years, Hollis Croft is clad predominantly in bricks. Two main shades of brick are used; these are a deep red brick, as used in the construction of the Footprint Tools factory which previously occupied the site, and a paler cream brick used in accenting details and towards the top of the tower. Out of the abundance of student accommodation projects completed in Sheffield in the 2010s, Hollis Croft is the tallest and most prominent in the city's skyline.
