Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) is a London, United Kingdom-based law firm providing services to businesses in construction, aviation, shipping, insurance, commodities and energy. The firm was founded in 1883.
History[edit]
HFW was founded in 1883, and its early expertise was representing maritime clients following shipwrecks and collisions.[2]
In 1978, the firm was one of the first international law firms to open an office in Hong Kong.[3]
Notable clients and cases[edit]
Notable clients and cases include representing the salvage companies that cleaned up after the 2002 oil tanker Prestige disaster in Spain, as well as representing the owners and insurers of the 2007 damaged container ship MSC Napoli.[2] The company has represented shippers attacked by Somali pirates.[4] The company also successfully represented Brandywine Reinsurance (now Chubb Limited) in a law suit that finished in 2005, following the famous 1989 Exxon Valdez oil-slick disaster.[5]
