Holmes Makes it Right

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Holmes Makes it Right is a 2012 Canadian home renovation series on HGTV[1], hosted by general contractor Mike Holmes; DIY Network aired the series in the United States[2]. It is the fourth Holmes series, following Holmes on Homes, Holmes in New Orleans, and Holmes Inspection[3]. Similar to previous series, Mike and his Holmes Crew tackle complex construction projects, in order to abide by his motto of "Make it Right".

Unlike previous series, which focus on substandard work done by other contractors (as in Holmes on Homes) or deficiencies overlooked by home inspectors (as in Holmes Inspection), the show focuses on homeowners and communities that may have had a life-changing event that affected their construction timelines.

In 2019, select episodes of the series were remade into a new series, Holmes Makes it Right: Retooled. This series provides additional context and contains unused footage from the original series.

Much of the crew from Holmes Inspection return for this series, though there are a number of new crew members as well as others who departed over the course of the series.

The wall is on the verge of failure, and in the process of replacing it, the original contractor had started to deviate from plans drafted by an engineer, including having the base of the wall above the grade of their neighbour's property. When the engineer inspected the work done by the original contractor and claiming that it was the worst job he had seen, the contractor angrily walked off the jobsite, unwilling to tear down the work and start over. Complicating matters was that the original plans called for a fence to be installed taller than what local bylaws allowed.

October 14, 2014 (2014-10-14)

Upon further inspection, the structural integrity of the addition was so compromised, and the cost to repair so expensive, that Mike makes the unprecedented move of offering to buy out the homeowners so that they can recoup their losses. Ultimately, however, the homeowners choose to have the home restored.
