Holocaust Education and Genocide Prevention Foundation

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Holocaust Education and Genocide Prevention foundation is a non-profit organization and it aims to educate the public about the dangers of prejudice and discrimination. One of the programs offered by the HEGP Foundation is a multi-media presentation developed and lectured by young Austrian Gedenkdieners with the Gedenkdienst[1] program founded by Andreas Maislinger.[2] In these presentations the young Gedenkdieners teach students about the Shoah as well as other genocides. In addition to that they also refer to current problematic topics such as racism and discrimination.

History[edit]

In the 1980s Peter Kleinmann decicided to retire from his business and he started to report about his experiences as a young adult during the Holocaust. The purpose of this is that he wanted to inform students about the dangers of prejudice and it's consequences. Additionally, he also wanted to educate about the dangers of racism, stereotyping, bigotry as well as discrimination. In 1995 his non-profit organization entitled Kleinmann Family Foundation was mandeted by the Canadian government. Until Kleinmann passed away in the year 2000 he dedicated all of his energy to educate young people and to make the world a better place.[3] In 2002 the Organization was renamed to Holocaust Education and Genocide Prevention Foundation or HEGP Foundation which is managed by Naomi Kramer. The HEGP Foundation is an NGO and its aims also are to educate the public about the dangers of prejudice and discrimination.

Partners[edit]

The HEGP partners with the Canadian-Scandinavian Foundation (CSF), a non-profit organization which was mandated by the Canadian Government in 1950.[4] The aim of this partnership is to inform Quebecers about the role of the righteous gentile during the Shoah and the unprecedented rescue of the Danish Jews in October 1943. Another very important partner is the Austrian Service Abroad which is an Austrian organization where young Austrians are able to perform an Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service.[5] Each year young Gedenkdieners work at the HEGP Foundation. The Vanier College is also a partner of the HEGP Foundation since there is an annual symposium at Vanier College, organized by the HEGP Foundation.[6]
