The Holy Spirit Catholic Church is a Catholic church[1] in the industrial district of Ghala, in the city of Muscat,[2] the capital and largest city of the Sultanate of Oman,[3] south of the Arabian Peninsula. This is one of the two Catholic churches found in the city and capital, the other being dedicated to the Apostle Peter and Paul in the business district of Ruwi.[4]
The temple follows the Roman or Latin rite and depends on the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia (Apostolicus Vicariatus Arabiae Meridionalis or النيابة الرسولية من جنوب الجزيرة العربية).
History
In 1986, an Italian Franciscan friar named Barnabas Maddii briefed His Lordship Bishop Bernard G. Gremoli on the situation of the growing Christian expatriates residing outside of commercial districts during the expansion of the capital, noting the distance of Ruwi and lack of regular transport. The bishop approached Oman's then-ruler, the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and informed him on the matter. In response, the ruling Sultan donated a plot of land in the serene surroundings of Ghala.
