The Home Temple Movement, alternatively called The Home Temple or by many other names is a worldwide neo-Gnostic organization created in the 1990s in opposition to the Liberal Catholic Church.[1] The Movement was founded by Lewis Stewart Keizer[2] and was later co-led by Willa Esterson Keizer, who claim multiple forms of lineage from Herman Adrian Spruit, the former patriarch of the Catholic Apostolic Church of Antioch.[3][4] The Movement is based on the house church concept. Within the Movement, since claims of succession to apostolic and neo-Gnostic lineages are made, a variety of religious practices from Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, etc. contain additions that relate to the Seven Sacraments, most often the Eucharist.[5][6] The mostly used religious practices come from modern day Rabbinical Judaism that have a "Messianic Banquet" theme to it that involves the Eucharist.[7][8] Regardless of the claims of lineages that the Home Temple Movement claims to be valid, it is unknown and highly doubtful that despite the claims of Lewis Keizer and the others that a valid lineage of apostolic succession exists in the group as there are many variables that would need to be met for even Keizer to have a valid lineage of apostolic succession let alone the other males who could possibly receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders and the graces to the presbyterate and episcopate. Therefore, no other religions besides those that are neo-Gnostic and attempt women's ordination such as the Ordo Templi Orientis accept their ordinations as legit.

Beginnings[edit]

Lewis Keizer started off learning about Gnosticism, esotericism, and the like under his mentor, Mother Jennie until her death in 1975 at the age of 97. From her, he bases off what will happen in the 21st century and beyond by reading the claimed prophecies of Nostradamus and others. From his compilation and study of these claimed prophecies, he eventually settles on the development of a universal lay apostolic and Gnostic priesthood.[9]

After that experience, in 1975, Lewis Keizer abandoned the Episcopal Church and was eventually consecrated into forms of lineage by Patriarch Adrian Spruit of the Catholic Apostolic Church of Antioch on April 14 1975.[3][10][11] Willa Esterton Keizer was eventually consecrated a bishop by her husband in 1997.[3][12]

As the current leaders of the Home Temple Movement, the Keizers have created an online training seminary to ordain anybody who wishes at any age for ministry as a minister of their religion of choice (which is not recognized by any other religions), which tends to include a consecration of some form as well.[13] Today, this course integrates information mainly from Lewis Keizer's Patreon page where he claims to have special esoteric information about Jesus Christ's "secret teachings", and "earlier mysteries" drawn from the mystical, esoteric, and Gnostic sources that he has collected.[14]

The Home Temple Seminary is also connected with the training offered by the Temple of the Holy Grail which offers training in a system of theurgy.

Clergy[edit]

The Home Temple Movement has a theology where they ordain both men and women, gays and transgenders, those from every religion, etc. As a result, the Home Temple Movement is essentially an ordination mill as they provide easy ordination to their diaconate or presbyterate for a cost. They do not offer the episcopate as open as the other ones.[15] The Home Temple Movement has claimed consecrated hosts for sale for their deacons and has other things as well where they would make a profit from.[16]

Some people who befriend Lewis Keizer eventually are elevated to the episcopate.
