Artist Studio Honda Kobo, or simply, Honda Koubou (本多工房) is a shared artist-run creative studio and community space in Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.
It specializes in supporting local creative talent through its various art facilities and activities.
Located in Shiogama's Kitahama district, the building in which the space is situated is a Showa-era four-story tall building that once housed a family-run Kimono shop in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
After the 2011 earthquake, the building sustained notable damage, causing the Kimono shop to shut down operations and leave the building abandoned.
In 2022, members of Shiogama's creative community as well as local residents volunteered to renovate and refurbish the building into a shared artists studio and event space. Students from the Tohoku Institute of Technology also helped out in the renovation process.
The facility - in the form of the shared art studio - was opened to the public in January 2023, signaling its formal start of operations. Various artists moved in around this time too.
After ongoing renovations, the third floor shared lounge was opened to the public in August 2023.
As of current, four full-time artists, and two part-time artists take residence in the shared studio.
