A honey pack is a honey-based dietary supplement sold in single-serve sachets, marketed primarily for male libido and endurance and has condemned by health experts regarding health issues and complications.[1]
Product description
A honey packet or honey pack is a small sachet containing honey and botanicals, advertised online and in some retail outlets for improving sexual performance, maintain an erection, have sexual intercourse for longer before ejaculating, and improving energy and endurance.[1] Despite marketing claims, scientific support for its active ingredients is lacking.[2]
Manufacturers, Kingdom Honey LLC, often list ingredients such as royal jelly, Tongkat Ali, bee pollen, and ginseng to suggest natural efficacy,[1] though there is little clinical evidence validating sexual‑performance claims.[3]The honey packet is also known for containing viagra and cialis, two FDA-approved drugs to treat men with erectile dysfunction but are restricted to use under the supervision of licensed health care professionals.[4]
Controversies
Health advisory
On April 25, 2022, The Food and Drug Administration of the United States advised against purchasing and using Royal Honey VIP due to its potential health risks. Through its Automated analysis, the FDA found sildenafil, whose usage is only approved under strict medical guidance.[5] Following this, two companies named MKS Enterprise LLC and Shopaax.com recalled Royal Honey VIP packets from their stores.[6]
This, however, was not the first time the FDA issued an advisory against Royal Honey VIP. In 2017, the FDA had issued another warning about the Royal Honey VIP product containing an undisclosed drug ingredient called tadalafil, the active ingredient present in cialis.[7] In 2018, the FDA had issued a public notification on Royal Honey VIP, saying it contained potentially harmful hidden ingredients that could lead to dangerously low blood pressure[8] due to tadalafil and sildenafil dilating blood vessels. If left unchecked, vital organs may not receive an adequate supply of blood and oxygen, and this deficit can lead to shock, irreversible organ damage and death.[9]
Honey sex trend
In 2024, a TikTok food trend encouraged men to consume honey packets, most notably Royal Honey VIP, to give themselves an erectile dysfunction before engaging in sexual activities, with one of the videos by a user named @asuchicks garnering over 440 million views.[10] The video took place in Arizona State University, where one of the two students talking to the interviewer mentions taking the honey packet 28 times a week.[7]
In spite of the FDA advisory, Royal Honey VIP has continued to grow in popularity among college students, with students due to the social media trend and its ease of availability.[5]
Links to Donald Trump's shell company
On October 17, 2024, CNN conducted an investigation related to the manufacturing and distribution of Donald Trump's limited edition luxury watches. The mailing address for the company, TheBestWatchesOnEarth LLC, was registered to the same address as an office of Royal Honey VIP. Upon contacting them, the honey seller, Vladimir Dmitirev, called it a "highly reputable company", and mentioned he was advised not to speak to any news agency before November 5, 2024.[11]
