The Hong Kong Statistical Society
The Hong Kong Statistical Society (HKSS) is a Hong Kong based society of statistic. It was founded by Professor John Aitchison in 1977.[1] The aims of the HKSS are to enhance the academic standard and application of statistics. Currently, the HKSS offers 5 types of memberships. They are viz. Full Member, Professional Member, Honorary Member, Student Member and Corporate Member. The total membership in the society is around 300.[2]
The HKSS entered an agreement with the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) in August 2001.[3] Starting from May 2002, the examinations offered by the HKSS replace RSS examinations which held in Hong Kong for many years. The syllabus of the examinations provided by the HKSS is same as that of the RSS examinations.[3] Then, after a series of review, the RSS decided to replace all statistical examinations by accreditation from September 2017. Following the decision by the RSS, the HKSS has stopped offering the professional statistical examinations. [3] Currently, HKSS offers accreditation for the following two qualifications:[4]
2) Graduate Statistician (It is one of the entry requirements for the position offered by HKSAR Census and Statistics Departement)[5]
The HKSS publishes Bulletins once a year and hosts different activities, including forums, seminars, competitions for secondary school students and prize for Phd students. Here are some of the activities arranged by the HKSS:
1) Statistical Project Competition for Secondary School Students[6]
