Honored Coach of Russia

Honored Coach of Russia is an honorary sports title awarded in the Russian Federation to coaches who have made significant contributions to the development of sports and have achieved outstanding results with their athletes at the national and international level.
The title is a successor to the Soviet-era honor Honored Coach of the USSR, which was established in 1956. Similar titles also existed in the union republics and other socialist countries, and some remain in use today. For example, Bulgaria and Poland have preserved such honors in their own sports systems.[1][2]
Award criteria
The title is awarded by the federal executive body for physical culture and sports, typically based on a recommendation from:
- A regional sports authority, with documents reviewed and approved by a nationally accredited sports federation (union or association);
- A relevant federal authority for departmental sports (e.g., Ministry of Defense for military sports).
To be eligible, a coach must have trained athletes who:
- Competed for the national team of Russia at international competitions;
- Set or equaled a European or world record;
- Won a medal at the most recent Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, or Deaflympic Games (if no international norms exist in the discipline, the result must be from the Russian Championships or National Cup).
