Hordes of Chaos
Warriors of Chaos[edit]
Warriors of Chaos is an army book for the Warhammer Fantasy Battle game, providing rules for playing an army of Chaos-worshipping humans from the Chaos wastes of the north. The book also includes in-game background information on these individuals. In the game, the forces of Chaos were initially represented by a single army but later split into separate armies: daemons, warriors, and beastmen. This arrangement is no longer rules-legal, but remnants like a cannon crewed by Chaos Dwarfs still exist.
Chaos Wastes and History[edit]
In the fictional world of Warhammer Fantasy Battle, an inter-dimensional gate collapsed, creating a hole at the world's north pole leading to the "realm of Chaos". This realm brought magic and Daemons. The Slann and High Elven Arch-mages drained most of the magic, causing the daemons to fade back.
The area around this entrance is known as the Chaos Wastes, characterized by fluid laws of Order, instant weather changes, and monsters. Humans living here are savage, tribal, and worship the four great gods of Chaos. They are tall, heavily built, and often have mutations seen as divine favor. These men are great sailors and raiders, attacking other races for plunder and glory.
Two major incursions from the Chaos Wastes include:
- The "Great War against Chaos" led by Asavar Kul, which nearly destroyed Kislev.
- The "Storm of Chaos" led by Archaon, Lord of the End Times, aiming to destroy Middenheim.
Army Structure[edit]
Warriors of Chaos armies focus on close combat with few ranged capabilities besides magic. Their primary tactic is engaging the enemy in close combat. Units can take a "Mark" representing one of the four Chaos gods, granting specific abilities.
- Marauders: Savage tribesmen from the north, stronger than average humans.
- Marauder Horsemen: Light cavalry sharing a destiny with their steeds.
- Chaos Warriors: Men who sold their souls for power, wearing armour forged by the Chaos Dwarfs.
- Chosen: The most favored warriors, granted abilities like great strength.
- Chaos Knights: Ride chaos steeds and carry magical weapons.
- Exalted Heroes and Chaos Lords: The strongest become Daemon princes.
- Chaos Sorcerers: Warriors with destructive magic spells, good in close combat.
- Forsaken: Men with animal-like intelligence due to mutations.
- Chaos Spawn: Large piles of flesh with flailing appendages, often insane.
- Chaos Hounds: Wolf-sized mutant dogs used to support troops.
- Mutant Monsters: Includes Trolls, Ogres, Giants, Dragons, and Dragon Ogres.
- Chaos Dwarf Hellcannon.
