Horizen (platform)
Horizen is an open-source, privacy-focused blockchain platform.[1] Its cryptocurrency, ZEN, is an altcoin forked from the Zclassic protocol, a fork of the Zcash protocol. Zcash is based on Bitcoin’s code but offers private and selective transparency of transactions using advanced cryptography.[2]
The currency was launched in May 2017 as “ZenCash” by Rob Viglione, Rolf Versluis, and Jane Lippencott. It was rebranded as “Horizen” in July 2018.[1]
Horizen introduced a delayed block penalty into the proof-of-work(footnote) consensus algorithm to penalize malicious miners(footnote) after the project suffered a double-spend attack in May 2018.[3][4]
Horizen has a market cap of $72,197,625 USD as of November 6, 2018.[5]
