Hormone receptor 3
Hormone receptor 3
Hormone receptor 3 (HR3) is a nuclear receptor belonging to the HR family and functions as a downstream transcription factor of the 20E cascade in arthropods.[1]
Functions
HR3 is reported to be associated with developmental transitions of metamorphosis in many Lepidopteran and Hymenopteran insects, including the model species Bombyx mori, Drosophila melanogaster and Aedes aegypti.[2][3][4] It plays roles throughout the larval, prepupal and pupal stages.[5][6] In particular, HR3 is suggested to participate in the biosynthesis or degradation of various crucial structural components and energy metabolites.
HR3 is involved in chitin precursor synthesis in Plodia interpunctella.[7] In Pieris rapae, predicted target genes of HR3 are significantly enriched in metabolic pathways, such as glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, citric acid cycle, and fatty acid degradation.[8] Furthermore, increased HR3 expression inhibits the expression of fatty acid synthase in non-diapause Galeruca daurica larvae.[9] HR3 therefore mediates diapause termination and induction.
