Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, originally known as Ipoh Hospital, was built in 1891 with 50 beds only. It was upgraded to the State hospital in 1942. Since then, there were few major physical upgrades in this hospital including eight-story building build in 1980 and new specialist clinic in 1992, Daycare complex on 2005 and new cardiology and women and child complex on 2018.[1]

Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital accommodates 990 beds, 16 operation theatres, 16 intensive care (ICU) beds, 8 coronary care beds (CCU), 17 Children's intensive care beds (PICU) and 20 neonatal care beds.
