Date of Birth: Fall 1980, Tehran

Hossein Safa (born December 20, 1980, in Tehran) is a contemporary Iranian poet and translator. He studied industrial electricity and holds an equivalent doctoral degree in Persian language and literature. Safa is known for his work in ghazal, free verse, and colloquial poetry, and is considered one of the innovators of the modern Persian ghazal. His distinctive six-part ghazals—often referred to as "six-stanza" or "six-section" poems—have had a notable influence on the next generation of ghazal poets. His colloquial poetry has also served as a model for many young poets. Several of his poems have been adapted into lyrics, the most well-known of which have been performed by Mohsen Chavoshi, a popular Iranian singer. Safa has also translated two anthologies of contemporary Turkish poetry into Persian.
