Host Agency Reviews
Host Agency Reviews (HAR) is an online travel industry resource hub and directory where travel agents review host travel agencies. Based in Minneapolis, MN, website founder, Stephanie Lee, started Host Agency Reviews in 2012 to provide information for the growing network of independent home-based travel agents as the volume of storefront travel agencies declined precipitously from the early aughts into the 21st century.[1]

Additionally, the relaunch expanded the breadth of travel industry resources to include a travel jobs board, a travel events calendar, a podcast series, and a week-long online travel agency setup program called the 7 Day Set Up.

Surveys and Data Reporting
In Feb. 2020, American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) estimated that 20,000 independent travel agent contractors worked in the travel industry, comprising 20% of the total travel agent workforce.[4]
Host Agency Reviews began administering a Travel Agent Income Survey and a Travel Agent Fee survey in 2016. The reports on hosted travel agents, independently accredited travel agents, and employee travel agents complement data from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, which emphasizes travel agency employees only.[5] Host Agency Reviews works with data analysts to publish 6-12 annual reports that highlight income and fee-charging practices among independent contractor travel agents.
In 2021, Host Agency Reviews combined the fee and income survey into one annual survey. However, the reporting of income and fee trends among travel agents remain separate.[6]
