Hot Klub

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Hot Klub was a punk rock club in Dallas, Texas, USA. It opened in 1980 and continued to operate until 1983. During these years numerous local punk bands as well as internationally famous bands on tour performed there.

Origins[edit]

The club was owned and operated by Mark Lee & Danny Eaton ( Mark Lee had been Manager of Dallas Garage Rock legends, Kenny and The Kasuals in The 60's. The Kasuals reemerged, with a different lineup, and played The Hot Klub frequently.). The Hot Klub followed in the wake of other clubs such as DJ's New Wave Cafe, Magnolia's, Lou Ann's/Ground Zero ( Ground Zero opened, approximately, in late 1982.), and the Sock Hop. The Hot Klub featured a stage with backdrop of the name spelled out in cheap wooden letters (The name was spray - painted in black and red, though it's possible there was a different logo behind the stage when they started ), very few amenities and the required graffiti-covered bathroom walls. Standing at the corner of Maple and Hondo in Dallas, The Hot Klub was somewhat geographically removed from the popular hotspots of that time such as Lower Greenville or the Cedar Springs / McKinney St area. Nonetheless, it was a popular destination for punk rock bands and their fans.[citation needed] It closed because owners Mark Lee and Danny Eaton became deeply involved in 462 productions, which booked national touring acts in Dallas venues.

Gigs[edit]

Many local punk bands played the Hot Klub stage, including: The Nervebreakers, Stick Men With Ray Guns,The Devices, The Telefones, NCM, Superman's Girlfriend. ( Also Cringe, Quad Pi, Moving Products, Ft. Worth Cats, Jetsons, Assassins, Tex and The Saddle Tramps, The Ejectors, Hugh Beaumont Experience, Howling Dervishes, etc. ) . National and international touring acts such as The Clash, Talking Heads, English Beat]], Romeo Void, Richard Hell, The Go Gos, Hüsker Dü, Eurythmics, Stray Cats, Iggy Pop, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Stranglers and UB40 ( also Ultravox, Sparks, X, Roky Erickson, Black Flag, Blasters, Bad Brains, Suburban Laws, Joe "King " Carrasco and The Crowns, REM, Bangles, Fleshtones, and even James Brown.) often played there as well.
