House of Antique Hardware

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

House of Antique Hardware is an American manufacturer and retailer of antique-reproduction house hardware, lighting and plumbing. Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, the company operates exclusively online, serving retail and trade professional customers worldwide.[1]

HISTORY:[edit]

Founded in 1999, House of Antique Hardware[2] is based in Portland, Oregon USA, a city known for its historic neighborhoods and strong preservation community. The company was started by Roy Prange, a local restoration contractor and antique hardware collector. Unable to source sufficient antique hardware for his projects, he began to reproduce and bring to market many of these hard-to-find items on his new retail web site.

In the early years, the company was literally a “house of antique hardware,” operating out of an 1884 Victorian home (the warehouse was in the basement and the sales office in the living room). The young company experienced rapid growth, and by 2003 had relocated nearby to a small commercial building with a warehouse. Transitioning to a modern and comprehensive ecommerce website in 2005, the company continued its upward trajectory. In 2007, House of Antique Hardware moved into a large office and warehouse complex in the emerging Central Eastside neighborhood. Successfully weathering the housing crisis of 2008 and the subsequent recession, the company expanded operations with a new warehouse and distribution center in 2015, providing space for future growth.

House of Antique Hardware initially offered a small selection of genuine antiques and reproduction items sourced from other American suppliers. Shortly thereafter, they began manufacturing hard-to-find products, such as decorative Victorian hinges and drawer pulls. The range of products grew quickly, to become an encyclopedic offering of door, window, cabinet and household hardware. In 2007 they launched Shop-by-Style, which gave shoppers the option of exploring seven distinct and popular American styles: Colonial, Classical, Victorian, Arts & Crafts, Romantic, Art Deco and Mid-Century. In 2010, the company introduced a curated line of period-reproduction lighting, and in 2014 it expanded into the world of plumbing.

In parallel with the manufacture of retail products, House of Antique Hardware also made a name for itself in the field of custom hardware. Serving government, commercial and private clients, their painstaking reproductions have appeared in Federal buildings, historic properties and residences throughout the US.
