From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The House of Democracy (HoD) is a non-profit association, based in Brussels (Bruxelles capital) founded under Belgium Law with founders each from a different country, rooted in Europe and with a global perspective. Politically they are neutral and not linked to any political party or movement. The initiator of the House of Democracy is Dr. Hande Bozatli, an MD from Istanbul, former politician and former President of the Assembly of European Regions (2013-2017). Among the founders and members the HoD has gathered are friends from academia, board members from business, activists for democracy, women’s rights, disabled people and participants from youth organizations, as well as personalities from the arts, film and media and the EU institutions.

The House of Democracy objectives:[edit]

  • Awareness – To promote public awareness and understanding of the advantages of democracy and rule of law for a better life and governance and the role of human centred development in this.
  • Advocacy – To raise awareness and generate fact-based evidence of the advantage of democracy and rule of law for the development of people, economy, well-being, wealth, and happiness.
  • Empowerment – To ensure that HoD members, individuals or organizations, are empowered and supported to be active in their advocacy of democracy and rule of law and provided with the opportunities and channels to do so effectively.
  • Engagement – To work closely with partners and relevant stakeholders to ensure that the principles of democracy and rule of law are represented and considered in policy and all decision-making – ensuring a multi-stakeholder approach, with civil society taking the lead.

Human centred development[edit]

Human Centred Development (HCD), since some decades now, is a proven methodology for successful development. Participation, democratic process and government accountability are key elements for successful HCD. In an ever-changing world, confronted with countless political, economic and environmental challenges, the HoD promotes principles and values of democracy in order to become present in our citizens’ everyday life.

Since members of the HoD strongly believe that the much-needed daily cultivation of democracy needs engagement of all stakeholders in society, HoD invites people to get acquainted with their concept and goals and to support their work.
