The House of van Zeller is an extant Portuguese noble family, patrilineally descended from Pedro van Zeller, a Knight of the Order of Christ who was granted a Coat of Arms in 1786.[1]
In 1845, Pedro van Zeller's grandson Roberto married his own second cousin, Dorothea Augusta Kopke, sister and heiress of the childless Nicolau Cristiano Kopke, 2nd Baron of Vilar. [2] Upon the latter's death, the estates of the extinct baronial House of Vilar were inherited by the main line of the House of van Zeller, which to this day continues to produce wine under the trade name Barão de Vilar.
Several of Pedro van Zeller's brothers and more distant relatives had descendants - including Mariana van Zeller - which nevertheless do not belong to the House of van Zeller founded in 1786.
