Exhibitions[edit]

In 2020, Tangye's paintings were exhibited at The Armoury Show (art fair), Whitewall Magazine said of Tangye's exhibition[10]:

"Tucked away in Pier 90, we were captivated by Howard Tangye’s whimsical paintings presented by London-based State. Employing only the naked line and pale shocks of color, Tangye’s portraits are a study of the body at rest. Each painting’s sketchy, elusive form emits a quiet yet unmistakably sensual energy. They exist at a moment of hesitation that, like holding your breath, makes it feel easy to lose yourself."[10]

In 2017, Tangye held an exhibition titled LINKS at The Amar Gallery in London.[11][3][12] In 2022, his work was exhibited and he did a talk at the Design Museum, London for their 'Drawing Fashion' collection.[13]

Early life and education[edit]

Tangye was born in Queensland, Australia and grew up in Mount Isa.[1] Tangye started his career as an artist when he moved to London from Australia, at age 18 to study at the Saint Martins School of Art in London for a BA in Fashion, Textiles and Drawing graduating in 1974 [1][11]; then he moved to Parsons School of Art and Design in New York on scholarship where he studied a postgraduate degree in drawing graduating in 1976.[1][5]
