Hu Changlin (Chinese: 胡昌林, 1937 - ) is a Chinese diplomat and former ambassador who served as Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Turkey. He was among the early generation of Chinese diplomats specializing in Arab affairs and later held senior positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.[1]
Biography
Hu was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu. In 1954, he entered the Department of Diplomacy at Renmin University of China. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1976. In 1957, Hu was sent to Egypt to study Arabic. He subsequently served at Chinese diplomatic missions in the Yemen Arab Republic, Somalia, and Egypt, and later worked at the Chinese Embassy in Lebanon as attaché and third secretary.[2][3]
After returning to Beijing, Hu served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, where he held successive positions including deputy division director, division director, and deputy director-general of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs. In April 1985, Hu was appointed the first Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United Arab Emirates, following the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He remained in the post until February 1989.[4][5]
In November 1988, Hu was concurrently appointed as the first Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Qatar, serving until October 1991.[6][7] In September 1991, Hu became Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Turkey, serving until May 1995.[8]
