Ar. Hud Bakar (aged 54) is the principal of RSP Architects Sdn Bhd, whose practice maintains a design practice known for designing commercial high rise and high end residential/ hospitality. Hud is the principle designer to the firm and oversees the design philosophy, directions and the overall company growth. With over 30 years of experience in designing small and large scale projects, Ar. Hud Bakar, albeit known for his unique and parametric approach to design, maintains a high level design ideology of what he calls 'building with a soul'.

Notable buildings in Malaysia designed by him include Naza & LTH Tower, Felda Tower, MACC HQ, Paradigm mall and MITEC Exhibtion Hall. Throughout his career, he has completed over 50 buildings and continues to produce architecture such as the upcoming 8 Conlay 3 Blocks of (61-Storey, 56-Storey and 72-Storey) Mixed Development Hotel, Serviced Apartment and Retail and KL118 (architect of record) 118 storey Mixed Development.

Biography[edit]

Early Training[edit]

Architect Hud Bakar spent his secondary education enrolled in Victoria Institution, Malaysia. He was awarded as the best student among his class mates and was subsequently awarded the JPA scholarship to pursue his architectural degree in the United States. In 1988, Ar. Hud Bakar graduated from UC Berkeley with Master of Architecture degree. He then started his career in San Francisco Bay Area before coming back to Malaysia. During his residence in San Francisco, he worked in architectural practices such as Whistler & Patri and HOK. Hud then moved back to Malaysia to join Kumpulan Senireka Sdn Bhd as a director before taking the helm of RSP in 1997.

RSP Architects[edit]

The practice was founded in 1956 in London by Roger Squire. However, RSP Akitek Kuala Lumpur was only established in 1981 and later on became RSP Architects Sdn Bhd. The practice comprises a team of professional architects, interior designers, planners and engineers. The architecture practice advocates a connection between nature and man-made environment to aim towards design excellence, energy efficiency and sustainability in buildings. RSPKL believes in timeless but practical design - Architecture with a soul. MITEC "rubber seed", Platinum Park's 'spiral towers', MACC "transformer" and JAKIM 'Nur' are few much talked and published projects that are transforming the Malaysian Architecture scene.

To date , RSPKL has won awards, completed thousands of residential units, more than 20 commercial high-rises in KL and the biggest exhibition building in Malaysian. Under construction are the tallest spiral residential towers in the world and a 118 storeys building to name a few.

With more than 150 staff, RSPKL provides architecture, planning, interior and landscape design services. Internationally, with more than 1,000 staff, RSPG (Group) is ranked top ten architecture practice in the world. Besides RSPKL in Malaysia, RSPG offices can be found in Singapore, Dubai, India, Vietnam, Ghana and China.

Personal Achievements[edit]

In 2018, Hud Abu Bakar received the Honoring the Victorian Award at the 125th Anniversary of Victoria Institution ceremony. [1] His primary alma mater awarded Hud Abu Bakar, an alumni of the institution, for his great efforts in shaping Kuala Lumpur's skyline. Apart from Hud himself, other recipients were notable industry leaders.
