The Mission of Hudson Highlands Land Trust (HHLT) is an organisation that aims to protect and preserve the natural resources, rural character and scenic beauty of the Hudson Highlands in New York State’s Hudson Valley. HHLT is based in Cold Spring, New York, in the Lower Hudson Valley.[1]
History[edit]
It was founded in 1989 and since 1991,[2] has been a member of the Land Trust Alliance, a national conservation organization representing more than 1,000 land trusts across the United States.
In 2019, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) announced $1.8 million in Conservation Partnership Program grants for 55 nonprofit land trusts across the state, including HHLT.[3]
In 2020, in partnership with New York (state), HHLT was instrumental in preserving 4,000 acres of open space.[4]
In 2021, HHLT was also involved in conserving 150 additional acres of land that was added to the Clarence Fahnestock State Park.[5] The 2021 acquisitions represent an investment of $1.14 million in state funding from the Environmental Protection Fund and Hudson Highlands Conservation Act.
The current Executive Director (since 2021) is Katrina Shindledecker.[6]
