Hwang Chul-soon (Hangul: 황철순; born September 1, 1983) is a South Korean bodybuilder who is the 4x Musclemania Pro Champion and the 2012 Musclemania World Champion at professional heavyweight.
His old-school style has sometimes drawn comparisons to former legendary Mr Olympia, Arnold Schwarzenegger, earning him the nickname "Asian Arnold".[1]
Early life and biography[edit]
Hwang Chul-soon was born in Seoul, South Korea. He quoted his motivation for bodybuilding as:[1]
“When I turned 20 I had a very thin body and weighed only 57kg (125lb). I was treated with disrespect. People looked down at me in situations like if I was returning goods to a store, or helping someone or speaking to strangers.”
Hwang Chul-soon would do 3000 sit ups a day, however, he soon realised it was inefficient and spent more time with a planned workout routine and meal preparation instead.[1][2]
Three years later, he became a personal fitness trainer in Seoul. In 2009, he decided to compete in various bodybuilding shows, the debut contest being the 2009 Musclemania World Championships, finishing 2nd place in the lightweight category.[2][3]
Hwang Chul-soon acknowledged that:[1]
“Now that I am much bigger, people treat me with more respect. They call me the ‘Asian Sensation’, ‘Asian Pride’ and the ‘Asian Arnold’.
