Ashanti Akyem Hwdiem [1] is a traditional monarchy in chiefdom model, located in the traditional area of Agogo and district of Akyem North[2]. In the past it was a component of the Ashanti Empire, currently the Traditional Ashanti Kingdom (in Ashanti Region of the Ghana) whose capital is Kumasi.
Culture
Akyem Hwidiem local food is based on Fufu[3], bananas, rice and other foods common in tropical countries. Their dance is the dance of the local culture called Adowa. It is a traditional dance popular in Ghana and the Akan people and is performed in cultural ceremonies such as festivals, funerals, engagements and celebrations. The Adowa dance is a sign of expression that allows performers to communicate their emotions and feelings through their hands and feet. There are different hand movements performed for each scenario, people will communicate positive emotions at weddings or engagements and negative emotions at funerals. Hwidiem also participates in the Fofie Yam Festival, a traditional harvest festival that takes place in Ghana.
Traditional System
Akyem Hwdiem is an integral community of the Ashanti Kingdom and traditional area of Agogo. Ashanti Akyem has for some time created development titles in parallel with traditional Ashanti authority title (of chieftaincy institution) with the aim of rewarding and encouraging development activities through foreign methods and resources[4]. Development titles are usually based on the old and prestigious Asafo companies
Economy
In Hwdiem is located the subsidiary of an important multinational plant exploration company, Miro Forestry [5]
