Hybrid Calisthenics is an American fitness company best known for creating short fitness and health videos on Tik Tok. It was founded in January 1st, 2018 by calisthenics expert and social media personality Hampton Liu with the goal of "cultivating long-term fitness".

History[edit]

Hybrid Calisthenics was founded in January 1st, 2018 by Hampton Liu in Arkansas, U.S. as a Facebook fitness blog that gained a small following until it became a Tik Tok channel in February 1st, 2020 that made it rise to popularity. The company concept rose thanks to Hampton Liu's fitness inspirations such as calisthenics experts like Paul Wade (author of Convict Conditioning) and Pavel Tsatsouline. The word "Hybrid" came from using the best exercises and philosophies from different disciplines for personal fitness while "Calisthenics" is bodyweight exercises that symbolize the inner human ability to change for the better.

Hybrid Calisthenics Shop[edit]

In July 30th, 2020, Hybrid Calisthenics announced a new fitness/workout products shop. It was created for followers who do not own any equipment to carry out some of the workouts in the fitness course. It sells equipment such as gym rings, jump rope, and pull-up bars.

Fitness Course[edit]

In August 15th, 2020, Hybrid Calisthenics announced a free fitness course consisting of home calisthenics routines with video and picture demonstrations.[1] It was stated by Hampton Liu that he wanted the course and information to remain free of charge for as long as possible[2].

Origin[edit]

The name "Hybrid Calisthenics" is derived from a combination (in this case, a "hybrid") of various disciplines from which calisthenics takes inspiration such as:

  • Yoga - This eastern discipline provides bodyweight holds such as bridges and the elbow lever.
  • Gymnastics - Exercises such as handstands and v-holds that contribute to strength, power, balance, agility and conditioning.
  • Martial Arts - Gives movements to hone fighting prowess, with countless exercises to list.

Hybrid Calisthenics was formed on the initiative to help people better their lives and achieve their fitness goals. It also focuses on the usage of calisthenics in other disciplines. In the process, it aims to combine forgotten knowledge of old-school calisthenics with modern scientific discovery.

Philosphy[edit]

Hybrid Calisthenics' philosophy revolves around spreading these core principles and messages:

  • You deserve to be happy.
  • Don't let other people sell you your own health, fitness, and happiness.
  • You can push yourself and love yourself at the same time.
