HyperOS (Chinese: 澎湃OS; pinyin: Pēngbài OS; literally: 'Surge OS'), officially named Xiaomi HyperOS (Chinese: 小米澎湃OS; pinyin: Xiǎomǐ pēngbài OS; literally: 'Xiaomi Surge OS'), is an operating system developed by Xiaomi unifying MIUI, Xiaomi's Vela OS, Mina OS and car-focused operating system's software architecture[1] for its smartphones, IoT devices and other Xiaomi hardware such as its automobiles. It is replacing MIUI gradually in 2024.[2]
History
In 2017, Xiaomi was developing Xiaomi Vela OS to use with its own IoT devices. It is based on NuttX[3] and was announced in 2020.[4][5]
In 2019, Xiaomi pre-developed Xiaomi Mina OS, a microkernel security system.[1]
In 2021, following its decision to make automobiles, Xiaomi was developing its own car-focused operating system.[1]
In 2022, Xiaomi decided to unify the aforementioned operating systems' software architecture, and HyperOS finished its research and development.[1]
The new operating system was announced on X and Weibo on October 17, 2023, and debuted alongside Xiaomi 14 Series on October 26, 2023 at 7 p.m. CST.[6][7]
MIUI's WeChat and Weibo’s account has been changed to Xiaomi HyperOS on October 20, 2023 and October 23, 2023 respectively.[8][9]
A leaked version of HyperOS V1 for phones was analyzed; it is developed as MIUI 15.[8] The leaked version does not contain any code for HyperOS. MIUI 15 was also mentioned in Xiaomi's Redmi K60 Ultra event.[10] HyperOS V1 for phones is thought to have started converting from MIUI 15 in October 2023, with HyperOS features being added later.
Features
HyperOS V1 added an iOS-like lock screen editor, an AI assistant named HyperMind, cross-device collaboration named HyperConnect, fewer system storage usage and faster performance.[11]. Some minor visual changes were also made.
