Hysteria is an American drama series created by Shaun Cassidy for Amazon Studios. Along with Hand of God, the premiere episode is one of two drama pilots Amazon streamed online in August 2014. Viewers were allowed to offer their opinions about the pilot before the studio decided whether or not to place a series order.[1] Hysteria was not picked up to be a series by Amazon.[2]
The pilot was officially ordered in July 2014 and was made available for free online viewing beginning on August 28, 2014. Amazon announced on September 30, 2014 that they would not move forward with the full series.[2]
Premise[edit]
Hysteria takes viewers to Austin, Texas where social connection has become contagious. In the pilot, members of a girls’ competitive dance team are stricken with a strange, psycho-physiological illness that manifests itself in violent fits and spasms and then begins spreading in the community through technology. Neurologist Logan Harlen returns to her hometown to investigate the cause. Fighting her own demons and the growing manipulation of a brother on death row, Logan develops an uneasy suspicion that the hysteria surrounding the girls might actually be linked to social media and her own tragic past.
