ICC Asia is the International Cricket Council region responsible for development of the sport of cricket in Asia. It is a subordinate body to the International Cricket Council (ICC). The organisation currently has 25 members, located in Asia.[1]
As the Asian Cricket Council is the prime regional administrative body for the management of cricket administration in Asia, the ICC Asia only holds the qualification events for ICC in the region and administers the promotion and development of cricket in Asia which are not members of the ACC.[2][3]
Jurisdiction
Of the 25 members which are part of ICC Asia, 23 are also part of the Asian Cricket Council, except Mongolia and Uzbekistan. Their administration and development is undertaken by ICC Asia.[4][5]
The administration of cricket in Brunei and Taiwan do not come under ICC Asia as they are yet to join ICC, while being a part of ACC. The Asian members of the ICC East Asia-Pacific do not come under the ICC Asia region for ICC events qualification pathways.
Operations
Since 2015, ICC Asia and ACC have integrated and managed the regional development activities of the region from Dubai. This also enabled ACC Development staff to take up roles with the ICC and integrate the development work of the ACC with the ICC’s Development Programme.[6] The conferences held periodically also involved participation of members from both ICC Asia and ACC.[7][8]
Members
ICC Asia member associations are divided into two categories: full and associate members. Full members of the ICC are accorded "Full Member Status", whilst associate members of the ICC and ICC non-members are accorded "Associate Member Status".[1]
Notes:
- ↑ Sri Lanka became associate member of ICC in 1965, before getting Full Membership in 1981. Sri Lanka was also the first associate member to get full member status.
- ↑ Bangladesh became associate member of ICC in 1977, and later promoted to Full Member in 2000.
- ↑ Afghanistan was granted associate membership of ICC in 2014, before getting promoted to Full Member in 2017.
- ↑ Thailand Women's team has Women's ODI status.
