The Ismaili District Boy Scouts Association for Central Region (IDBSA-CR) is a provincial organization under the Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board Scouting Portfolio for Pakistan[1], affiliated with the Pakistan Boy Scouts Association.[2] Founded in 2000, it spans from Peshawar to Multan with Local Scout Councils in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Multan, and Peshawar. With approximately 5,000 members (as of 2025), it is the largest province among the 12 IDBSA provinces.
History
Scouting in the Ismaili community began in 1930 under Prince Ali Salman Khan,[3] with the establishment of the His Highness Prince Aga Khan Ismaili Scouts Association (ISA) in 1936.[4] In 1994, scouting was formally inducted into the Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board Scouting Portfolio for Pakistan, leading to the establishment of provincial organizations, named as the Ismaili District Boy Scouts Association. [5][6]
In 2000, scouting was introduced in the Central Region despite challenges posed by the established Ismaili Volunteer Corps.[7] With the support of President, Local Council for Rawalpindi, Mr. Aly Anjum, the first Scout Group, His Highness Prince Aga Khan Scout Corps, Rawalpindi, was formed, later renamed to Ismaili Scouts (Open) Group Rawalpindi. This group played a pivotal role in promoting scouting and youth development, paving the way for expansion. As scouting grew, new groups were formed, and Local Scout Councils were established to facilitate organized growth and development.
Today, the Ismaili District Boy Scouts Association for Central Region oversees 94 Scout Groups under the leadership of Prince Amyn Muhammad Aga Khan, the present Ismaili Chief Scout.[8][9]
