The IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI) is a scientific congress organized by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. Usually held every two years, it brings together three major conferences in the field of computational intelligence: the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN), the IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems (FUZZ-IEEE), and the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC).[1]

History

The first World Congress on Computational Intelligence was held in Orlando, Florida, in 1994. It combined conferences devoted to neural networks, fuzzy systems, and evolutionary computation under a single event.[1]

Later editions were held in cities including Anchorage, Honolulu, and Vancouver. From 2010 onward, WCCI has generally followed a biennial schedule.[1]

A number of books have also been published in connection with lectures presented at the congress. Following WCCI 2002, Wiley published Computational Intelligence: The Experts Speak, edited by David B. Fogel and Charles J. Robinson.[2]

Material from WCCI 2008 was published by Springer as Computational Intelligence: Research Frontiers, volume 5050 of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. The volume included contributions on neurocomputing, fuzzy systems, and evolutionary computation.[3]

Springer later published Advances in Computational Intelligence, a collection based on plenary and invited lectures from WCCI 2012.[4]

In the ERA 2010 conference ranking recorded by the CORE/ICORE Conference Portal, WCCI was assigned an A ranking.[5]

Organization

WCCI is organized around three constituent conferences:

  • the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN);
  • the IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems (FUZZ-IEEE);
  • the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC).

Although they take place within the same congress, the three conferences maintain their own technical programs and areas of specialization.[1]
