iPhone Backup Extractor is freemium cross-platform software application developed by Reincubate for accessing, transferring and recovering data stored by Apple iOS devices. The software works with backups created by iTunes and iCloud, and with data stored in the iCloud. It is available for macOS and Microsoft Windows. [2]

    Features[edit]

    Data access[edit]

iPhone Backup Extractor supports viewing and exporting data from a range of apps and data types, including SMS, iMessages, WhatsApp messages, call logs, photos and contacts. It is also able to look up data and identifiers from iOS devices[3].

    Data recovery[edit]

The product includes functionality to recover some types of data that were deleted prior to a backup being taken[4].

    Reception and notability[edit]

IPhone Backup Extractor's developers have twice received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.[5][6]. The award described iPhone Backup Extractor’s technology as “unique […] in accessing and recovering content from Apple's iOS and iCloud systems”[7].

iPhone Backup Extractor has received favourable coverage from a number of reviewers[8][9][10][11] and technology journalists, including Joanna Stern of the Wall Street Journal who described it as “awesome”[12].

Trustpilot shows over 250 consumer reviews with an overall rating of 5/5 and a TrustScore of 9.6[13]. CNET shows over 50 consumer reviews with an overall rating of 4.5/5[14].

    History[edit]

iPhone Backup Extractor was originally developed as an open source script and released by Reincubate on September 9, 2008[15] after its creator lost their own data during an iOS update[16].

Subsequent versions of the software extended its functionality, with version 1 introducing a GUI[17] and version 4 introducing support for access to iCloud data recovery[18], recovery of parental restrictions passcodes[19], and recovery of deleted data[20]. Version 7 introduced support for recovery of lost Screen Time passcodes[21]. The release notes indicate updates are released most months[22].
