iServer is an enterprise architecture and business process modeling tool, produced by Orbus Software, headquartered in London. The product recently gained interest from the research organization Gartner Group for its use of Microsoft Visio as a platform - Gartner named Orbus as a ‘cool vendor’ for this reason.[1] The tool regularly receives an honorable mention in Gartner's 'Magic Quadrant' for BPA software.[2]
Features[edit]
The iServer product supports TOGAF, DoDAF, MoDAF, and most other frameworks. It offers 'quick start' packages for TOGAF and ITIL. The company produces Visio templates and stencils for BPMN and Archimate.
The product website states support for all notations and frameworks, provided that Microsoft Office templates for these notations and frameworks are adopted.
Visio as a modeling environment[edit]
Visio is commonly used by organizations to design their architecture and business processes, perhaps because of its availability as part of the Microsoft Office suite. Microsoft has estimated that 40% of all Visio diagrams that exist are process diagrams.[3] Conversely, Infoweek has reported that 60% of all process models in the world are documented in Visio. This has led to a number of modeling tools basing themselves on the Visio platform.
