The ITU Focus Group on Quantum Information Technologies for Networks (FG-QIT4N) is a standards organization of the ITU, to develop standards for networks based on Quantum Information Technology.:[1] The Focus Group was created by the December 2019 Telecommunication Standardardization Advisory Group (TSAG, which advises the Director of TSB, Chaesub Lee), after intense discussion between various Member States in Ad-Hoc Groups.[2]

Administratively, FG-QIT4N was created by TSAG which in turn is a statutory meeting of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA). The secretariat is provided by the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (under Director Chaesub Lee). It was first created in the December 2019 meeting with a lifetime of one year.

The mandate of FG-QIT4N includes[3]

  • studying the applications and evolution of Quantum Information Technology for networks
  • focussing on use cases and terminology for Quantum Information Technology for networks
  • to provide collaborative conditions to effectively support Quantum Information Technology related standardization work in ITU-T Study Groups
