Summary[edit]

IXD(interCAD extended document) file is an EDA document format developed by Interxsoft for standardizes the integration of various EDA data into a single document.

History[edit]

2015 IXD was introduced by Interxsoft, when they announced interCAD Editor. The initial interCAD Editor provided the ability to create .ixd files that standardized design drawings(schematic, layout) created in all EDA software into a single document, and .exe executable files with viewer and design data. When sending and receiving .exe files generated by the interCAD Editor as attachments, the .exe files were often classified as spam and were not properly delivered to recipients. To improve this issue, Interxsoft began distributing IXD-readable interCAD Reader products free of charge in 2019.

Features[edit]

Regardless of EDA software, IXD can safely provide and share Schematic, Layout, ODB++, and Gerber documents together, and it has the advantage of standardizing design drawings written in all EDA software into a single document to read and print drawings.

• Keep original file: IXD can retain all data from the original design drawings, even if Schematic, Layout, ODB++, and Gerber are combined into a single file.

• Thorough security: Users can password-protect IXD files that should not be seen by others, preventing others from reading or printing them. It is possible to use the Share Package to delete sensitive design information and to protect distributed documents through date restrictions.

Software[edit]

interCAD Reader program that can read IXD file free of charge on Interxsoft website, also sells a separate program called interCAD Editor, which allows the production of IXD. IXD files generated by the interCAD Editor allow anyone to easily share and view EDA design data.
