Ian Clinton Douglass (born September 15, 1979) is an American journalist, author, and biographer.

According to Dave Meltzer writing in Wrestling Observer Figure Four Online "Every Ian Douglass pro wrestling book is good"..[1] Khal Davenport Archived August 25, 2025, at the Wayback Machine of the Black Rasslin' Podcast said "[Ian Douglass] is part of a specific class of Black wrestling journalists. there's a lot of work that goes into this that isn't being recognized; i've seen it, and it's necessary."[2]

Education

Douglass graduated from Southfield High School. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, a master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, an honorary master's degree from the Specs Howard School of Media Arts, and completed the Executive MBA program at the Quantic School of Business and Technology.

Career

He began his career as a web producer for ABC News in Detroit and continued with a role as an on-air reporter for NBC News in Flint, Michigan.

Three of his books has earned "Finalist" distinction in the year-end awards of The Wrestling Observer[3][4][5], and both of his books with Steve Keirn were awarded the "Best of the Best" distinction from The Pro Wrestling Torch[6]. Meanwhile, his book Bahamian Rhapsody received the 2022 Commissioner's Choice Award from the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum[7][8][9].

In addition to writing books, Ian has worked as a contributing writer for The Ringer[10][11], Cracked Magazine[12], Men's Health Magazine[13], InsideHook, BarBend Archived August 26, 2025, at the Wayback Machine[14][15], and Splice Today[16]. He was also the final fitness editor of MEL Magazine[17], from which more than one of his articles was curated into the New American History/Bunk History project at The University of Richmond[18]. In addition, Ian has made contributions to Popular Science Magazine[19], and Emio Tomeoni's Streamy-nominated YouTube channel The NBA Storyteller (TNBAST). He was also a creative consultant on the channel's Webby Award-winning documentary "The Myth: A True Story of Michael Jordan & Leroy Smith."[20][21]

Personal life

Douglass is married with one child. As of 2025 he resides in Durham, NC.

Douglass competes as a masters swimmer. He has won multiple national championships recognized by both U.S. Masters Swimming and the National Congress of State Games.[22][23][24]
