Ian Swift Hunter

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Ian Swift Hunter is an American music executive, A&R strategist, and founder of the independent record label Anemoia. He is best known for pioneering data-driven artist discovery during his tenure as Senior Vice President of A&R at Atlantic Records, where he helped identify and develop multi-Platinum artists across pop, dance, hip-hop, and alternative genres.[1]

Career

Hunter joined Warner Music Group in 2011 and in 2013 was hired by Mike Caren as the Senior Director of A&R Research, the first dedicated A&R Research role at company. He and Caren traveled to the various Warner Music labels in the US, UK, Germany and France pitching the concept of using data to discover artists. In 2014, after identifying Melanie Martinez via a Youtube scraper, Hunter was brought into Atlantic Records by Craig Kallman and promoted to Vice President of A&R Research, tasked with building out the label's A&R Research division.[2]

His signings have led multiple RIAA certifications across various genres; including Melanie Martinez, Matoma, Why Don’t We, Breland, Ugly God, JayDaYoungan, and Sueco, and many more. certifications.[3]

Hunter’s work bridges traditional A&R instincts with data science, a method highlighted by The Ringer and The New York Times for shaping the discovery of viral artists such as Lil Nas X and Breland.[4]
