Iceberg charts are a form of Internet meme in which information related to a topic is sort into tiers based on it's obscurity and creepiness typically with a background image of an iceberg. The iceberg chart derives from the metaphor that most information is bellow the of the iceberg. Iceberg charts are often about Media properties, Internet phenomenon, hobbies, and other often niece topics[1][2]

Origin and spread[edit]

Early Iceberg charts where posted to Imgur and were about the dark web in 2011 they spread on online image boards such as 4chan and Reddit. Iceberg charts became popular after a YouTube video explaining the a chart related the video game Super Mario 64 gained over 4 million views in 2020[3]. Later that year the website icebergcharts.com was founded which has gained over 1,400 members[4][5]

Copyright issues[edit]

Commonly used in iceberg chart images is a stock photo taken by Ralph A. Clevenger of a iceberg.[6] In 2020 the owner of the site icebergcharts.com received a cease and desist from Ralph A. Clevenger for use of his stock photo the site has since banned use of the image
