Identified Technologies was founded in 2013 by Richard (Dick) Zhang, while he was a sophomore studying mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2014, Zhang migrated out of the military space to serve a more widespread audience and signed his first construction customer. He assembled a group of Carnegie Mellon University graduates to create an autonomous drone system and started attracting more customers in the construction, mining, energy, and engineering industries.
