Igor Segeda

Igor Segeda (full name — Segeda Igor Viktorovych; born 16 March 1973, Ilovaisk, Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR) — a Ukrainian composer, conductor, arranger, pianist and author of books on conducting and musical theatre. Author of music for feature and documentary films and television projects. Worked with the film companies Film.UA and Star Media and the channel TONIS. Honoured Figure of Ukrainian Variety Art (2016).

Biography

Igor Segeda was born on 16 March 1973 in Ilovaisk, Donetsk Oblast. In 1992, he graduated from Donetsk Music College with a specialisation in conducting. In 1998, he graduated from the S. S. Prokofiev Donetsk State Conservatory, obtaining the qualification of conductor.

In a television interview on the TONIS channel, Segeda said that he was originally from Ilovaisk, Donetsk Oblast. In the same interview, he stated that he first entered a music college and then a conservatory, from which he graduated as a conductor.

In 1988—1992 — a soloist of the song and dance ensemble «Вольниця». In 1994, he became a diploma recipient at the song festival «Вітер зі сходу» in Donetsk. In 1994—1996, he worked as a conductor and composer at the Donetsk National Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre.

In 2000—2002, he worked as a composer and arranger at the international organisation «Еммануїл», where he created a number of songs for the television programme «Клуб Суперкниги» on the UT-1 channel, which took second place in an all-Ukrainian television competition.

From 2010 to 2013, he collaborated as a composer with the film companies Star Media and Film.UA. In 2014, he began working as a composer of documentary films for the TONIS channel. In a television interview, the presenter noted that Segeda had written music for many of the channel’s documentary films.

In 2016, Igor Segeda was awarded the honorary title «Honoured Figure of Ukrainian Variety Art».

He currently lives in Wuppertal, Germany, where he continues his work as a composer, musician and author.

Creative work

Segeda’s creative work encompasses the genres of symphonic, instrumental, cinematic and sacred music. His compositions combine classical harmony and contemporary electronic elements, creating atmospheric soundscapes for visual projects.

In 2021, Igor Segeda’s music was used in a television programme of the broadcasting company «Медіаінформ» (Odesa), where his authorship was indicated in the programme’s official credits.

Teaching activity

In 2022—2024, he worked as a piano teacher at a music school in Wuppertal (Germany).
