Ilan Arboleda

Ilan Arboleda (born November 27, 1975) is an American film producer and co-founder of CreativeChaos vmg, a documentary production and finance company based in Brooklyn, New York.[1] His latest work includes This Changes Everything, a documentary that he produced, about systemic gender inequality against women in Hollywood.[2] He also produced Los Tigres Del Norte at Folsom Prison, a documentary following Los Tigres Del Norte while they performed for the inmates of Folsom Prison during the 50th anniversary of Johnny Cash's performance there. [3]

Arboleda studied at Georgetown University's Edmund Walsh School of Foreign Service and has been working in the film industry since 1997.

Early Work[edit]

Arboleda got his start in the industry while working for Alexandra Rose, a producer, known for her work in The Other Sister, a film about a mentally challenged woman trying to claim her independence while her sister is planning her wedding. [4]

Arboleda then went on to work as a production assistant for Runaway Bride, a film directed by Garry Marshall.

As Producer[edit]

Arboleda founded Cinapse, a full service feature film finance and production company where he completed international co-productions, slate financing, and single project financing of films.  

He is an original founder and Executive Producer of companies in South Ame Dynamo Capital and later Dynamo Productions, based in Bogota, Colombia.[5] While there, he was the executive producer of Satanás and developed Contracorriente which has its world premiere at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in 2009[6]. The film was also well received by the audience of the Sundance International Film Festival, which won the film the World Cinema Dramatic Award.  [7]

Arboleda was a co-producer on the global hit documentary Kedi, a documentary about stray cats that live in Istanbul[8]. The film was directed by Ceyda Torun and was produced by Charlie Wuppermann.

The film had its premiere at the Istanbul International Film Festival on February 21, 2016.[9] The film had its online debut on YouTube Red on May 10, 2017.

CreativeChaos vmg[edit]

In 2009, Ilan Arboleda founded CreativeChaos vmg alongside Steve Edwards and Tom Donahue. Arboleda serves as the producer of most of the projects created by CreativeChaos vmg. CreativeChaos vmg’s breakout film was emmy-nominated Casting By[10], a documentary about the lack of recognition of the work of casting directors. The film had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and at the New York Film Festival in 2012.

In December 2013, the National Board of Review in America named Casting By one of the top five documentaries to watch.[11]  

Under the banner of CreativeChaos vmg, Arboleda has worked on multiple projects that explore different areas of systemic issues including: This Changes Everything, Los Tigres Del Norte at Folsom Prison, Bleed Out, and Thank You For Your Service: a documentary about veteran mental health in the United States and the need for a Behavioral Health Corps. This Changes Everything[edit]

This Changes Everything had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 2018. The film was very well received by the audience which led to the film winning the festival's first runner-up position for the Grolsch People's Choice Award under the documentary category. [14] Arboleda produced the film alongside Kerianne Flynn of New Plot Films and was created in association with the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, the Artemis Rising Foundation, David Yurman, and Lyft.

On January 17, 2019, Deadline Hollywood announced that This Changes Everything’s theatrical, streaming and broadcast rights for North America had been acquired by Good Deed Entertainment and that the film would be released theatrically in the first half of 2019.

This Changes Everything also won the Greg Gund Memorial Standing Up Competition at the Cleveland International Film Festival In April 2019.[15] The film had its premiere on 700+ screens via Fathom Releasing on July 22nd followed by a limited theatrical release on August 9th.[16]

Aisha Harris from the New York Times called the film “passionate... a crucial Cri de Coeur[17] and Ashley Lee from the Washington Post called it “searing”.[18]

The film will have its online premiere on Starz in December 2019.[19]

Los Tigres Del Norte at Folsom Prison[edit]

Ilan Arboleda was one of the producers of Los Tigres Del Norte at Folsom Prison alongside executive producer, Zach Horowitz.

The film follows the Los Tigres Del Norte while they visit Folsom Prison and perform two concerts for the inmates in honor of the 50th anniversary of Johnny Cash’s performance there. The film interweaves the stories of the inmates with the songs performed.

The music was produced by Oscar winner and grammy-award winner Gustavo Santaolalla and Anibal Kerpel.
