Ilaria Pagani is a South Australian based researcher studying leukaemia at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), in particular chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML).
Early life and education
She was originally from the town of Corgeno, Italy, before moving to Adelaide, Australia.[1]
In 2007, Pagani completed a Master's degree in Molecular biology at the University of Insubria, Varese, Italy. From 2011–2016, she obtained a specialist degree in medical genetics from the University of Milan, Italy, completed with highest honours. In 2012, she also obtained a PhD from the University of Insubria, Varese, on the topic of Experimental Medicine and Oncology.[2]
Awards
In 2019, Pagani was the winner of the International John Goldman Research Award, valued at $130,000 AUD, beating 29 other candidates from 14 different countries.[2][3] Pagani was also the recipient of the Beat Cancer Project Mid-career Fellowship, valued at $300,000 AUD and awarded by the Cancer Council South Australia for the years 2020–2022.[2]
