Illien Global (also known as Illien Global Public Benefit Corporation) is the company that led the multi year campaign at the United Nations[3] in 2011 which created the International Day of Happiness.[4][5][6][7] Illien Global CEO Jayme Illien brought the idea to United Nations senior officials, united a global coalition of 193 countries, and secured the endorsement of UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon to adopt UN resolution 66/281 thus establishing the new global holiday.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21]

The company was originally founded in 1980, by Anna Belle Illien as Illien Adoptions International, Inc, a 501 c 3 not for profit international adoption and child social welfare organization, which aimed to help abandoned or orphaned children by permanently allocating them families and homes.[22][23][24][25][26]

Anna Belle Illien is the adoptive mother of Jayme Illien, a prominent United Nations advisor and the current Chairman and CEO of Illien Global Public Benefit Corporation.[27][28][29][30][31][32]

The company campaigned for years spending $1.5MM to give happiness a higher place international policy agenda.[33][34][35][36] Jayme Illien and his company drafted the UN Resolution 66/281 which was eventually adopted under consensus of all 193 member nations in 2012.[37] As a result, a new global day was adopted for March 20.[38][37][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46][47][48]

The resolution recognized the pursuit of happiness as a human right and a "fundamental human goal."[49][50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57][58]
