Iminomiya Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Chōfu, Japan[1]. It is a Beppyo shrine, or a shrine that is particularly notable in a certain way with a significant history to it.[2] It is a Ninomiya, or a second rank shrine in its province after the Ichinomiya. In this case the Ninomiya and Soja shrine of the province are combined together. Ichinomiya and Soja shrines were often combined.[3]
Sōsha-gū[edit]
Sōsha-gū (総社宮) is a Sōja shrine on the premises of Iminomiya shrine. It enshrines all the kami of the shrines in Nagato Province. Whenever a new kokushi was appointed by the central government to govern a province, it was necessary for him to visit all of the sanctuaries of his province in order to complete the rites necessary for ceremonial inauguration. Grouping the kami into one location near the capital of the province greatly facilitated this duty,[4]
