Plot[edit]
In the American southwest desert a young boy sneaks off to look at an adult magazine. He is startled when a vortex opens in the sky and runs away leaving the magazine behind. After an ooze descends on the magazine an Imitation of the covergirl appears in the desert. The Imitation becomes hungry and goes in search of food eventually stumbling into a restaurant and eating a leftover sandwich. The owner, a Persian-American man, finds her harmless and takes her into his home where he and his mother look after and feed her.
Meanwhile, the cover model, Julianna Fox, is unhappy in her current lifestyle working in porn and selling drugs on the side. She has a chance encounter with a former piano teacher who remembers her as a promising student and suggests she audition for a position at the conservatory where she teaches.
Over the course of a day the Imitation learns Persian. She later bonds with Saghi, the man who found her, and he shares memories of his childhood in Tehran. She begins to believe that the two of them have fallen in love.
At a club Julianna runs into a woman who recognizes her and takes her home. The woman later finds Julianna's stash of cocaine and pours it down the toilet impacting Julianna and her boyfriend Max's income.
Julianna attends the conservatory audition and finds herself woefully out of her depth. She tries to discuss her unhappiness with the producer of her latest film but he reassures her that she is good at what she does.
While watching TV the Imitation is shocked to see Julianna in an adult film. She steals money from Saghi and goes in search of Julianna. Finding Julianna the Imitation offers to show her what life is like in her world. She dissolves into black goop and takes Julianna with her, the two of them sinking into a black pool.
