Imperial Music is an independent American record label founded and owned by Republic Records, a division of Universal Music Group. It was quietly launched in 2020 and formally launched in September 2021, one week before Universal Music Group's initial public offering of the same month..[1]
Imperial serves as a way for up-and-coming artists to have access to full music services and tools such as music distribution and radio promotion while keeping their independence and creative freedom, as well as a possibility to get signed directly to Republic later on.
The label is led by Glenn Medlinger, a Republic executive who had previously worked with Ingrooves, Imperial's distributor, for over 20 years.[2]
