The British Raj in relation to the British Empire in 1909. Status, Imperial political structure (comprising British India and the Princely States.) The British restricted Indian industries, such as textiles. An emphasis on cash crops resulted in the loss of self-sufficiency for many villagers. The conversion to cash crops reduced food production, which caused famines. British missionaries and racism threatened traditional Desi Indian culture.
