In Herschel's Wake, published in 2022 by Boyle & Dalton publishing, is a memoir by author and filmmaker Michael Wohl. The book chronicles Wohl's journey to the Caribbean island of Sint Eustatius in 2008 when his estranged father died unexpectedly. Wohl and his two siblings confronted a variety of obstacles before finally burying their father. The limited resources on the island meant that Wohl and his siblings were left to handle details like finding someone to build a coffin, and preparing the body for burial.[1]

Kirkus Reviews described it as "A tender, clever, and engrossing remembrance."[2]

Interspersed with the narrative of the events on the island are extensive flashbacks that illuminate the complicated relationship between Wohl, his siblings and his father.[2]

The style is intimate, and it deals with delicate subjects such as death, complicated father-son relationships, grief, and forgiveness.[3]

Each chapter is named after a well-known book or movie.[4]
