In Light Of Recent Events is the third studio album by Canadian-American metalcore project CasioRobinson. It was released on March 3, 2023, through the band's own label, Asscrack Records. The album was produced by Casio Robinson with some songs being co-produced by former alternate vocalist Jonas Maloy.
Background & Promotion[edit]
In December 2022 Maloy & Robinson announced the first writing session for their third studio album. In January alongside the release of the single "I'm Calling The Manager", Robinson announced that the new album was completed and ready for mastering and announced the album itself and release date. On January 11, 2023, two days before the announcement, Maloy was fired over allegations that turned out to be false. The album was initially going to be called The Blues Duology, Pt 1, but Robinson changed the name to In Light Of Recent Events in light of recent events -due to Maloy leaving and not being his best friend anymore- (no pun intended).
The first single for the album, "Postcard" was released on October 24, 2022 featuring a very radio-friendly hook. On December 9, the second single "Love//Hate" was released, again, being very radio friendly. "I'm Calling The Manager" was released on January 13, 2023, as the third single and featured an anti-formulaic downright heavy banger. It got over 1000 streams on Spotify and was easily the biggest hit of the album. The fourth single "The Cryptic Blues", was a ballad that received good reviews but not as good as the predecessor.
Critical Reception[edit]
The album received critical acclaim, averaging a score of 9.6/10. Most critics noted the album is a perfect example of what CasioRobinson is capable of and is "perfectly executed". Many critics regard the title track which is over 13 minutes long to be one of the greatest and well composed songs of the year. The production has been noted as 'stellar' and 'tight'.
